BIO

When it comes to thinking back on her childhood, Yezi's memory is rather spotty at best, though what she can remember isn't bad at all. Hana was born first, a lanky mess of a girl that Yezi believed was too tall for her own good, but had all the markings and signs of someone who could excel and triumph at sports. She came second, a vertically challenged firecracker that always seemed to work as the perfect armrest for her, no matter the boost standing on tip-toes could manage for a minute or three. Their parents were two high school sweethearts with a neverending list of plans and dreams with which to raise their children, many of which unfortunately never came to. Life turned on a dime on the autumn Yezi was to turn five and they lost their parents in an accident, barely giving them the time to process it before they were whisked away to live with an aunt. Their mother's sister, and someone they knew very well and loved very much, but even that wasn't enough to make the process any easier.

It was a difficult couple of weeks, which later turned into months and then years, and it struck Hana at a deeper level than it had Yezi. The three years she had on her seemed to make an immense difference with how she coped with things, but they also contributed to a sort of maturity no girl her age should have had, not this early on. Her demeanor changed in such a way that hinted at Yezi that she was trying to be more like a parent than a sister, even more so when it meant trying to make up for when their aunt fumbled through learning how to step up for both of them. If it meant waking up earlier to make sure they both had lunch in case their aunt was in a frazzled hurry out the door with them in tow, then she was up for it. Hana had become the only sign of stability in Yezi's life and it really was no wonder that they had grown up so close with one another, arguments arising only on the very rare moments when she felt she was being too overprotective, though understanding why she was so.

They couldn't be any more different at the end of the day. Yezi entertained every fleeting fancy she had growing up and did a little bit of everything and anything. She took guitar lessons and art classes and learned how to knit, then the next week she was preoccupied with rock climbing and learning how to assemble a telescope while figuring out how to chart and map out stars. It didn't take long for her brain to become a bank of random skills and tricks, but she always found herself gravitating back toward dance. It wasn't to be a profession, that much was certain, but it was still something she really liked. It kept her busy during the afternoons while her sister began to find her niche in sports, just as Yezi had always predicted she would, and things really were looking up by the time they began to reach their teens, Hana before her clearly. Their aunt had finally adjusted, or so it seemed, even if she was a flustered mess every now and then. Still, she had her heart in the right place, and she loved them both as her own, and they were steadily moving towards that reality of being a happy little family.

Support was always an important thing for each of them, which meant showing up to support at every meet or competition that popped up on their schedule. Though their aunt showed up to as many of them as possible, Hana and Yezi had made an oath to one another to never ever miss any of each other's events, even if that meant uncomfortably doing assignments in the passenger's seat during a long drive. This trip didn't seem like it was going to be any different from the countless ones that had preceded it, and there really wasn't anything about the day or the car or either her or her sister that seemed out of the ordinary. What ended up happening wasn't what was supposed to happen and if she had been looking from the outside in, she would agree it to be so even then, because was happened was not their fault. They weren't supposed to be hit from behind from that particular angle, but they were, and the odds certainly weren't supposed to be stacked up against them this way, not for a second time.

It happened quickly but Yezi knew exactly what it all meant, and every step forward they had taken from the day they had lost their parents crumbled in the blink of an eye. It meant nothing as the car flipped over the barricade once and then twice, it was impossible to tell when every inch of her body was riddled with such pressure and pain that it was impossible to breathe. Then came the numbness as the car was engulfed in flames. Yezi felt strangely disconnected from it all as her ears rang and then popped, and she knew that there was something seeping through her clothes and coursing along her skin, but she had no idea what it was. Time was irrelevant because she had no notion of it and she could barely acknowledge what was going on, other than the fact that it felt as if her body was falling apart and control was no longer hers.

Hana was found a few meters from the vehicle and that was probably the reason why she had been spared the worst of it, or so it seemed. Yezi was by the mangled and scorched remains of the car, unconscious and with painful burns covering a majority of her body, but still alive. It was what happened after that shot up a few flags, because it wasn't long before Yezi's scars seemed to have faded away completely, bones once again fitting together while the rest of her was free of wounds and bruises. She still wasn't conscious, and she wouldn't be for another couple of days, but when it did, she could barely remember a thing. So it wasn't the best route to tell her that Hana's life was hanging in the balance, and though there was hope for the best, things still seemed grim. It was the lack of sense in everything, from what was happening to her sister to what was happening to her and their lives in general that particularly took a toll of Yezi, sedation an impossibility when she was too hot for any doctor or nurse to touch.

It was evident that she wasn't ordinary, but everything else about these new circumstances kept her from fully processing that. Knowing that her body was no longer the same one she had before the accident was nothing short of unnerving, though Yezi did a remarkable job at suppressing it at the start. But as more time went by, and her sister remained in a coma, there wasn't much she could do to avoid it. She had received a few visits during her weeks at the hospital, visits from people far more knowledgeable than she was, people who knew of things she had never imagined possible. They provided some stability when everything was chaotic as it was, though she was far from being at ease with it. It took more weeks of pleading and assurance from her aunt to finally get her to budge and begin considering what had been proposed. Yezi was weary to leave her sister's side at the start, but part of her told her that things wouldn't have a chance of getting better again if she lingered by, wringing her hands in helplessness. So she accepted, so long as she was able to visit her sister when she wanted.

That was two years ago. It was a mission and a half, trying to pick things up again, especially when she felt vexed every time she thought about it again. Her aunt rose to help her in such a way that Yezi feels she'll never be able to give her the right amount of credit for, but it did her much good to know that she wasn't alone for any part of it, and her sister wasn't either. It helped the healing process well enough, letting her center on developing her abilities, and it's worked out well enough. It's all about taking it a day at a time.

REQUITES

Following the accident that triggered her abilities, Yezi has become, in essence, a phoenix. Though she hasn't found herself in another life threatening situation since, she can be reborn anew, though not without consequences. As it's something that has only happened once, and did so instinctively, Yezi doesn't have much control over what happens when she awakens from it. That accounts for the blanks in her memory when it pertains to everything that happened before and shortly after the accident, though it hasn't interfered with the creation of memories thereafter.

Apprehensive as she might be about that aspect, the mythical bird does hold special significance to her, and it's present in how her fire abilities manifest. They've developed to a point where she can create fire herself without the help of an external mechanism, and it's something that has certainly proved helpful when it comes to manipulating it in even its faintest and weakest of forms. Fire has bonded with her into a state of equilibrium that leaves her immune to burns and overheating, though she can adjust the intensity and temperature of flames at will, and even absorb it as a form of energy. This bonding can take on visible forms through her hair color, which can range from a bright yellow to a deep red, but she manages to find a happy medium when she feels up for a change. Yezi can control flames with ease, shapeshifting them into forms that are only limited by her imagination, from whips and swords to walls and wings strong enough to help her fly. All of these forms last for as long as she wills them to, though it takes more of an effort from her part to keep them up when atmospheric counteractive.

It wasn't long before she discovered a new aspect to her abilities, rather unsusual at that (all things considering). Yezi has been able to summon fire wisps that seem to have a consciouness of some kind, from how they appear to exhibit preferences of where they like to be (i.e., Jack-o'-lanterns) and dim themselves in the presence of strangers. So far, she has only created three, each with a distinct personality of their own.
